The Huichol or Wixaritari are native Americans living in the Sierra Madre Occidental range in the Mexican states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Zacatecas and Durango. The Huichol say that they originated in the state of San Luis Potosi. Once yearly, some Huichol journey back to San Luis, their ancestral homeland to perform "Mitote" Peyote (Hikuri, in Wixarika) ceremonies.
This ancient tribe is located deep in the mountains of central Mexico and according to carbon dating of the ashes from their sacred fireplaces they have lived here for at least 15,000 years . In the past decades some Huicholes have migrated to cities like Tepic, Guadalajara and Mexico City where they drawn attention to there rich culture with their art. To preserve their ancient beliefs they begun making detailed and elaborate yarn paintings and and also jewelry. We like to present some of the fantastic and colorfull work of the Huicholes here in our Boutique and on our Pop-Up-Stores:
